Had our first Pilates retreat in Celyn Resort, Kundasang 2 weeks ago! !

On the first day of our retreat, we checked in at about 2 pm. It took us about 2 hours to get to the resort. The ride was kind of scarry because the resort was situated so high up from the foot of the hill. But surprisingly, weather was not that cold.

At about 3 pm,we started off with a welcoming speech by me and then all participants took turns to do self intro. There was 19 particippants and 14 of them were KK Pilates students. After that, I showed an interesting video clip on pilates. Showing how all types of machines are being used in Pilates. Pilates is more than just matwork. Hopefully, KK Pilates studio can be a fully equipped studio in the near future. Then, we learned some pilates moves using paper plate. It was not easy at all, lots of core muscles were involved. After that, we divided the participants into 3 groups for games. For games, we did Pilates quiz and we had participants doing some pilates exercises. In the Pilates exercises, participants had to compete on a few Pilates elements such as abs strength, co ordination, fluidity of movement and precisions. We took a break after the games, and we continued with Rythm Pilates. Participant were taught to move with rhythm and it was exciting for all of them as they need to move fast to catch up with the beats.

After Rhythm, we had dinner and then we ended the day with lucky draws. Prizes given were Pilates mat, free class vouchers and Pilates band.

On the next day, we all had to wake up really early to do Pilates towel work at 6.30pm. Glad everyone had no problem waking up that early. We got to do Pilates with a crystal clear view of Mt. Kinabalu. We ended the second day with a closing speech and group photo sessions. Second day of retreat happened to be my birthday as well and I had all participants celebrating my birthday with me!!! Some of them even gave me very lovely presents!!We also had a cake delivered all the way from Ranau.

Right after breakfast, we also enjoyed a short Pilates demo by the the group of participants who lost in the games the day before.

Second day of retreat was indeed too short for most of us. I guess the retreat was so fun that most of them wanted more. Hope to have more activities iand more people participating in the next retreat.

Photos taken on Pilates Day 2010

KK Pilates Day 2010

KK Pilates day was held on 17th April, 2010.We were lucky to have it in a very grand hall, which was SESB hall. All thanks to my 2 beloved students, Ernie and Mag, who happen to be SESB staff.

We had more students performed this year as well. Actually, 90% of KK Pilates students performed and they performed well. I, as their Pilates teacher, am so proud of them and feel very grateful as well.

There were about 60 spectators on that day. Not alot, but enough to make it a successful event.

We started with a welcoming speech by Roger Wang. Then, I took over to give a brief self -introduction, followed by testimonials from 2 of my students. After that, I proceeded to giving a talk on "what is Pilates and its benefits". Then came the exciting part which was the performances of my students. Next, was a free trial class for audience which was led by me with the help of my advanced student Ming Hui as my model. There was only 10 mats for the audience. Those who were interested had to quickly run up to the front to grab a mat. We were surprised that more than 10 people were interested to try Pilates out on the spot. We though they would shy away or show no interest at all.

Just to have an idea of what Pilates Day was like, I have uploaded some wonderful photos taken by my student, Basil. Do enjoy browsing through the pics. For those of you who did not join us this year, we hope you will join us next year!
